'De Diner', oil on canvas, 5x 100x80 cm. (2010)
The 3 pillars of Europe's identity are freedom of mind, freedom of religion and legal protection of norms and values.
The Dinner:
In this work, I have depicted the way animals are treated in Europe, and more specifically in the West. On the one hand, we regard our pets as members of the family, who are well cared for; on the other hand, there are the millions of production animals in the countless large-scale intensive livestock farms.
The Dinner was painted by analogy with The Last Supper. The chosen color palette refers to one of the highlights of painting, the Baroque.
The Dinner was part of an international exhibition, titled 'European Identity', in which 19 artists from 12 countries participated. The exhibition took place in 2010 and 2011 in Germany (Berlin/Inselgalerie), in Poland (Lodz, Central Textile Museum),
in Italy (Urbina/Palazzo Ducale and in Spain (Arenas de San Pedro/Palacio de Mosquero).
The Kingdom of Holland was a- cosponsor.
